Lagos PDP Big Boys Decamp To APC

The battle for political leadership come 2015 will be tough, no doubt. On Saturday, a former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Rafiu Jafojo, and other top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to NAN, others who defected included former Lagos State Chairman, Elders Council of PDP, Dr. Oluyomi Finnih, and former state secretary of the party, Tunde Daramola.
Welcoming the new members, the state chairman of APC, Chief Henry Ajomale,said they had made a good decision. He promised that the party would be fair to them.
Dr. Finnih, who spoke on behalf of the new members, said the defectors had come for the unity of the party and not to divide it.
"We took the bold decision because we see the party as a prosperous party. We defected based on the lack of internal democracy in the PDP and our aim is winning the presidential election by APC," he said.
The state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said that the party was glad to accommodate the new members.
Fashola urged them to ensure that the party's interest was placed above individual interest, saying that there would be a level-playing ground.
APC leaders say they are sure of victory now, even more than before.

Fayemi’s aide accuses Ekiti Obas of collecting N150,000 bribe

Ogun State born Maxwell Olusegun Adegbenro, Special Assistant on Social Media to the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has accused traditional rulers in Ekiti State, who attended forum organised by Concerned Yoruba Elderst in Ile-Ife on Friday, of collecting N150, 000 bribe each to attend the event.
Maxwell Adegbenro made this allegations on his Facebook page at about 11:30 am on Saturday.He berated the Obas, including the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe of travelling to Ile-Ife to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan, saying; "The Ekiti Obas can receive the President in their home state and not OAU at a function organised by a group in close association with PDP."
Adegbenro, who is Dr Fayemi's spokesperson on social media must have echoed the position of the former governor on the traditional rulers' visit to Ile-Ifeon Fridayto attend the event.
He said; "And our own traditional rulers in their borrowed robe suddenly filled Gov Fayose escort to endorse Jonathan and not to receive him.
"Was Jonathan coming to Ekiti? How may Ondo State Traditional rulers graced the programme?
"How many Osun State Obas, Ogun and Oyo suddenly became President Jonthan convoy team to a meeting supposedly organised to rally support for him?
"You and I know why these Obas were there. They may have been lucksturally deceived by Fayose in presenting entire Ekiti before President Jonathan as peoples choice and candidate.
"Traditional rulers are separable of despotic politics. An interplay that has no moral, cultural ground is justifiably an ills to our values and norms. Egbon, that is my point. Where then is their integrity. So, again I heard they were paid 150k each."
Reacting, Special Assistant to Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka described the comment as an insult on the entire people of Ekiti.
Olayinka, who demanded an immediate retraction of the statement and apology by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, said Governor Fayose will not stand and watch anyone dragging the traditional institution in Ekiti State in the mud

I’m suffering for not stopping Tambuwal from emerging Speaker —Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan says he regrets his inability to have a South West politician as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2011. Speaking at a Yoruba Unity Summit at the Obafemi Awolowo Uni, Ile-Ife, Jonathan attributed his failure to the selfishness of some Yoruba leaders.
In 2011, Aminu Tambuwal, who is from the Northwest, had defeated Mulikat Akande, a Yoruba from the South West, to emerge the House Speaker.
Now, President Jonathan is claiming that he is suffering from that decision by the House:
"One of the problems I faced in the National Assembly is that I felt the right thing should be done because our party, the PDP, has a formula."
"We have six geo-political zones in the country and when the President emerges from one of the geo-political zones, the Vice-President emerges from another geo-political zone, the rest core offices, the Senate President, the Speaker, Secretary to Federal Government, the chairman of the party must come from different geo-political zones.
"The idea is that, whenever we are distributing board positions and some of these appointments, whenever we are appointing ministers, all these people sit to take decisions. In that case we want all the geo-political zones to be in the inner caucus that take critical decisions.
"The last time, it was difficult for me because I insisted that the Southwest must get the Speaker. Of course, I couldn't go through with it because some of us within the Southwest didn't want it, based on some personal reasons. I am still suffering from that till today."

Ferguson Shooting: Darren Wilson Quits Police Force

US police officer Darren Wilson - who fatally shot unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, triggering nationwide riots in the United States - has resigned.
Darren Wilson, 28, has been on administrative leave since the shooting on Aug. 9. His resignation was announced Saturday by one of his attorneys, Neil Bruntrager. The resignation is effective immediately, Bruntrager said.
In an interview Saturday with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Wilson said resigning was "the hardest thing" he'd ever had to do, but made the decision after the police department told him it had received
threats of violence if he remained on the force.
"I'm resigning of my own free will," he said. "I'm not willing to let someone else get hurt because of me."The Missouri town and other US cities saw several days of rioting and looting this week after a jury decided not to bring charges over the killing. Mr Wilson, who is white, said he had acted in accordance with the law.

Ex-Egypt ruler Hosni Mubarak cleared of corruption and murder charges

Former Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak has been cleared of charges of corruption and killing of hundreds of Egyptian protesters in a revolution that toppled him in 2011.
Mubarak ruled Egypt for 29 years. The 86-year-old Mubarak was convicted in 2012 of issuing orders to kill peaceful protesters during the country's 2011 uprising and was sentenced to life in prison. He appealed and was granted a new trial last year.
Also acquitted were Mubarak's former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly and six of el-Adly's aides, who'd been accused of being connected to the deaths of 239 protesters as security forces cracked down on them in 2011. Mubarak's two sons also were acquittedSaturdayof corruption.
Mubarak still has a three-year sentence for a previous conviction for embezzlement, but it not clear when he'll be freed.
Prosecutors have the option of appealing the acquittal decision.

Emir of Kano, Sanusi visits scene of Central Mosque bomb blast

The Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II who was out of Nigeria when the bomb blast at the Central Mosque in Kano occurred, arrived Nigeria today and went straight to the scene of the the attack to assess the situation.
During his 20 minutes visit to the blast scene, the Emir said with the way the attacks were carried out, it showed it was well planned and had taken the perpetrators close to two months to plan it.
"From all indications, they (attackers) have been planning this for at least two months.I have directed that the mosque be washed and cleaned and prayers should continue here.We will never be intimidated into abandoning our religion, which is the intention of the attackers" he said (photo credit: AFP)

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru died today November 29th in a South African hospital after a long battle with brain tumor. He was 66 years old.
The career diplomat served as Nigerian Minister from 2011 until 2013. He was also Nigeria's High Commissioner to South Africa. May his soul rest in peace...amen.
