Police Officer Falls and Dies While Beating His Wife in Lagos
A Police Officer, Inspector Danjuma Daniel attached to a police division in Apapa, Lagos, died on Thursday afternoon during a fight with his own wife.
The scuffle between Inspector Daniel and his wife got so serious that the couple fell from the balcony of their apartment ─ a two-storey building. The couple, it was learnt, was staying at the Ijeh Police Barracks, Obalende, Lagos.
The late police inspector and his wife, identified simply as Ada, who had lived in the barracks for about 10 years, sustained grave injuries from the fall...
According to Punch, when they were rushed to a nearby hospital, Daniel was said to have been confirmed dead by the medical personnel, while the wife was admitted for treatment.
It was learnt that Ada, a trader in a nearby market, was discharged from hospital on Saturday morning.
Speaking with Punch in Lagos, Daniel's first son, Emmanuel, said he was informed about his father's death on the telephone. He explained that he was staying with an uncle in the Mile 2 area of the state.
He said, "I don't know what could have caused the fight. I was not at home. Dad and mum have lived in this barracks for about 10 years now.
"We were formerly staying in Nasarawa State where dad initially served. In Lagos, I don't stay with them, but my two sisters do. Mum has returned from the hospital, and she is back home now, but she cannot talk to anyone for now."
However, it was learnt from a resident that Daniel, an Eggon man from Nasarawa State, had had clashes with his wife before the incident. The source added that the fight on Thursday suddenly turned ugly and led to their falling off from the two-storey building.

INEC Declares Niger By-Election Inconclusive, Set for Re-Run
*APC Candidate, Umaru, Appeals To Supporters As INEC Declares Poll Inconclusive
The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Niger East by-election, Barr. David Umaru, has said the party would not be deterred by the irregularities that marred the last Saturday by-election and would by all means mobilise his supporters for the September 6 supplementary election.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, he said that the party would not boycott the re-run, but would mobilise members to come out en-masse for a landslide victory next Saturday against all odds.
Umaru said he was optimistic that he would be victorious at the next Saturday's by-election, and called on his teeming supporters not to despair.
I just wonder why INEC always find it difficult to conduct smaller elections, same thing in Ondo.

Real Sociedad 4-2 Real Madrid: Zurutuza inspires sensational comeback
The home side were two goals down early in the first half but roared their way to an astounding victory against the European champions
Real Madrid blew a two-goal lead against Real Sociedad as the home side sealed a sensational 4-2 win on Sunday.
The European champions seemed set for a comfortable night when early goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale left the hosts shell-shocked.
But Sociedad regrouped outstandingly, with goals from Inigo Martinez and Carlos Vela complementing David Zurutuza's double to secure a famous triumph.
Questions have surrounded Carlo Ancelotti's Madrid side in 2014-15 so far after an uninspiring 2-0 win over Cordoba last Monday followed their Supercopa de Espana defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Those results supported claims that the capital club have lost their balance following the departures of Angel di Maria and Xabi Alonso - now this dreadful defensive showing on Sunday will only strengthen the arguments.
Initially, it did not seem those frailties would matter as the visitors, despite being without Cristiano Ronaldo, attacked with menace and created chances at will.
Madrid flew out of the blocks and took an early lead whenRamosrose to meet Toni Kroos' corner with a glancing header at the front post.
That set the tone for the rampant European champions, Ramos almost grabbing a second with a stunning free kick that rattled the crossbar.
And Madrid did double their advantage in the 11th minute asBalebrilliantly nutmegged Gorka Elustondo and slotted a cool finish into the corner.
Not content with being two up, they continued to press forward only to see Marcelo twice spurn good chances before Ramos headed just over from a James Rodriguez set-piece.
The defender was pressed into action in his own box soon after, bravely flinging himself in front of Esteban Granero's powerful, goal-bound effort.
Normal service was resumed moments later as Enaut Zubikarai produced a fine stop with his leg to deny Toni Kroos.
The catalogue of missed chances looked costly in the 35th minute,Martinezsneaking in at the back post to convert after Xabi Prieto had flicked on a perfectly-placed corner.
And the scores were level six minutes later asZurutuzaarrived late into the box to powerfully head home Alberto de la Bella's centre.
Goals did not bring a defensive improvement for Sociedad, with Ramos getting on the end of another free kick and heading agonisingly wide.
Madrid's defending was not much better, illustrated at the start of the second half when an unmarked Imanol Agirretxe saw a header just turned wide by the toe of Iker Casillas.
But the turnaround was complete in the 65th minute as Prieto and Sergio Canales played a neat one-two that ended when the former slid a lovely ball across forZurutuzato slot home.
The verve with which Ancelotti's side attacked early on seemed a distant memory as they struggled for cutting edge.
Yet it was the issues at the other end that were most troubling, their inability to clear a set-piece proving costly whenVelafollowed a fine piece of chest control with a volley that arrowed into the top corner as defenders appealed for handball.
Sami Khedira, Rodriguez and Karim Benzema all missed golden opportunities thereafter as the visitors failed to find a route back into the game.

Official: Kagawa returns to Dortmund
The attacking midfielder has ended his stay at Manchester United and, after leaving two years ago, BVB have confirmed that the Japan international will be back in the Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Manchester United attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa is returning to the Bundesliga club on a four-year deal.
The Japan international failed to thrive at Old Trafford since his €22 million move from Signal Iduna Park to the Premier League two years ago and rumours have been rife all summer that he would be returning to the Bundesliga.
Dortmund confirmed the move for an undisclosed fee - reported to be €8m - with one day until the closing of the transfer window and BVB sporting director Michael Zorc admits the club leapt at the opportunity to bring the player back.
"The chance presented itself in the past few days to sign Kagawa from Manchester United for the first time ever," Zorc told the club's official website on Sunday. "Of course we opted to bring the enormous talent back to us to win more trophies."

— Borussia Dortmund (@BVB)August 31, 2014Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke was equally thrilled to bring back the 25-year-old to the club where he made his name, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles and a DFB-Pokal during his two-year stay with Jurgen Klopp's men.
"Shinji Kagawa is a technically gifted creative player who can determine the match in an instant," Watzke said.
"He wanted to return to Borussia Dortmund and we are sure that - given the right rest, time and appreciation - he will get back to the level he was at two years ago."
Kagawa, who follows in Nuri Sahin's footsteps as a player who has returned to Signal Iduna Park after a failed transfer abroad, is delighted to be back at last season's Bundesliga runners up.
"I already said on the day of my departure that the chapter Borussia Dortmund is not over for me," he said. "I wanted to make a dream come true by going to the Premier League.
"But now I am glad to be back in Dortmund with this great team, this unbelievable environment and these unique fans. BVB's like a family. I am proud they didn't forget me and I can be part of it again."
