Remarks by Bola Tinubu at the Seminar on “Let Peace Reign” By Alliance of Muslims & Christians

" Pursue Peace With all Men and Holiness without which no man will see God" -Hebrews 12:14
The very fact that we are assembled here today on an inter-faith platform to deliberate on the need to Let Peace Reign is in itself an admission that peace has eluded us as a people and as a country.
This gathering is also in the same breath a bold step to confront the issue and chart a course that will bring peace to our troubled land.
Admittedly, no religion can exterminate the other. Through history, we have seen failed attempts by either Islam or Christianity to eliminate or subjugate the other. Rather, the two world religions, which you represent, have moved from direct confrontation to some sort of silence alliance of crucial accommodation interlaced with break out of riots from time to time.
During Abacha's time, a body of inter-faith called NARECON with the President of Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, SIA, and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, started some measure of regular interactions. However, the world all over including Nigeria must appreciate that there is a polarization within the Islamic religion and the other religions combined. Consequently the state of the world as an enclave of humanity is extremely divided and is just trying to grapple with what it can do.
This current United Nations Assembly provided a forum for the Western powers and Europe to brainstorm as to how confront Islamic fundamentalism in its violent and bloody campaign to take possessions.
The current establishment of ISIS in Iraq and Iran has dangerous consequences because religion is fundamentally an emotional thing.
Not withstanding the rise of fundamentalism in religion helped along by fanatics who see nothing good in the other religion, the world has rarely gone to war over religious differences. Any nation that allows its people to descend into religious animosity will remain on the path of ruination and its people forever fractured.
From Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria to Turkey and Libya, we continue to see the destructive effects of intra-religious disagreements. In Egypt, a mixture of religion and politics has produced a volatile society and led to numerous deaths.
Both Christianity and Islam preach peace as one of their core principles. Unfortunately rather than promote peace amongst all men, we have sacrificed peace for the promotion of selfish aggrandizement. From the Maitasine Riots to the current Boko Haram mayhem, Nigeria has managed to avert a total religious convulsion. We have been able to keep at bay the destructive hands of a full-blown religious war. But we may not be able to do that much longer, unless those in positions of leadership become more responsible and patriotic.
The killings in Jos continue unabated over a decade when it began. The government has found no answer. Boko Haram continues its devastating attacks on innocent Christians and Muslims and other innocent Nigerians. Yet without a coherent and altruistic response by the government of the day, lives are being lost daily. Religion continues to drive us apart. We cannot remain on this path for too long. Something must give, else we risk a major religious convulsion.
Nigeria today is confronted by a divisive leadership ready to use religion as a political tool to rule and divide and to score cheap political advantage. Rathan than promote religious tolerance and harmonious living, Jonathan's presidency believes its electoral chances are enhanced by promoting religious suspicion and using religion as a manipulative tool.
As religious leaders, you have a key role to play. I need not educate you on what your responsibility is both to your followers and the nation. Above all, what God requires of you. You must above all else fear God whom you serve and be bold to speak truth to power with the same boldness you preach your sermons to your congregation. Through the holy books, we have read how men of God spoke truth to power and how liberation was brought about. There is no better time to speak up than now against injustice, the corruption of the pulpit, and the entrance of politics into religion and the unholy romance of the religious leaders with people in charge of the affairs of this country.
This forum must deliberate on an agenda that will let peace reign in our villages, cities, states and country. The forum must self examine, criticize and dissect the problems that have made men of peace become men of violence. It must come up with sanctions for so-called religious leaders who use the cassock for politics and use the Bible or Quran as the talisman to get wealthy. This forum of religious leaders must come up with a vision that seeks to promote and sustain peace at all times. Without a vision, the people will perish. Nations will perish.
I trust that at the end, we would have reached a new resolution to work for peace to reign in our country.
I thank you and wish you a successful deliberation.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Dubai Police Bust Nigerian Gang Involved in N13million Armed Robbery

The Ajman Police have busted a gang of five Nigerians that robbed the Al Mustaqbal money exchange of Dhs275,000 (N13million) including various foreign currencies.
According to Dubai news website, GulfToday, Brigadier Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, deputy Ajman Police chief, said that the incident took place last week when the gang members entered the exchange and attacked and assaulted its employees, threatening them with toy guns before emptying the premises of its cash and fleeing.
The gang members entered the country on a visit visa, which expired long time ago. He added thatthe police operations room received a call about the robbery at around 10.30 pm last Thursday. However, the suspects managed to escape before the police arrived on the scene, as the employees failed to activate the alarm in order to alert the police.
Lt Col Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director-general of CID at Ajman Police, said that police formed a special team to investigate the case.
"The police team used sniffer dogs to trace the movement of the suspects and found the shirt of one of the suspects and a toy gun used in the crime.
The police also used the footage obtained from surveillance cameras installed at the exchange house and the street, which assisted in revealing their car plate number and its description.
In cooperation with the Sharjah and Dubai Police, the team managed to identify the suspects and their location. One of the suspects was arrested in a street in Sharjah. He then led the police team to his accomplices in Dubai. In coordination with the Dubai Police, the team raided the house of the suspect and arrested the other four. The sixth suspect is still on the loose and the police is on the lookout.
Upon inspection of the suspect's residence, the police seized Dhs11,000, receipts of purchases of gold, garments and various items, as well as money transfer to their countries and currencies including US dollars, euros, Omani riyals and other currencies. The suspects confessed to their crimes and were referred to the Public Prosecution.

26-Yr-Old Woman to be hanged for killing man who tried to r*pe her!

Rayhaneh Jabbari, 26, was to be executed Tuesday, and even told her mother goodbye in a tearful phone call as she was being taken to the prison facility where she was to be hanged. But early Tuesday, Shole Paravan said she had learned the execution had been postponed. That word came after Paravan and other supporters of Jabbari went to Rajaiy Shahr Prison to protest the pending execution, and after Jabbari's farewell.
"I am currently handcuffed and there is a car waiting outside to take me for the execution of the sentence," Jabbari told her mother, whose recounting in Farsi was translated by FoxNews.com. "Goodbye, dear Mum. All of my pains will finish early tomorrow morning. I'm sorry I cannot lessen your pain. Be patient. We believe in life after death. I'll see you in the next world and I will never leave you again because being separated from you is the most difficult thing to do in the world."
"I am currently handcuffed and there is a car waiting outside to take me for the execution of the sentence." - Rayhaneh Jabbari
In April, a court postponed Jabbari's execution in the face of heavy international outcry, including an international petition with nearly 200,000 signatures. But the grim news that the sentence will soon be carried out came as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, trying to put a moderate face on the regime.
Supporters of Rouhani hoped his election last year would usher in a more tolerant era than the one of his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, particularly regarding human rights. But advocacy groups say the number of executions and violations have increased.
"This abhorrent execution must not be allowed to take place, particularly when there are serious doubts about the circumstances of the killing," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Middle East and North Africa deputy director at Amnesty International. "Instead of continuing to execute people, authorities in Iran should reform their judicial system, which dangerously relies on processes which fail to meet international law and standards for fair trial."
Jabbari, who worked as a decorator, was convicted of the 2007 fatal stabbing of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former employee of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry. Jabbari, who was 19 at the time, has long maintained Sarbandi drugged her and tried to r*pe her after the two met at a café and she agreed to go to his office to discuss a business deal.
Sarbandi took Jabbari to a rundown building in a remote location, according to her supporters. Once there, he offered her a fruit drink which forensic tests conducted by the police determined contained a date-r*pe drug, according to human rights advocates.
Jabbari allegedly stabbed Sarbandi in the shoulder with a small pocket knife and fled, while Sarbandi bled to death.
Human rights advocates say the case shows the brutality and intolerance of Iran's penal system.
"She has been tortured in so many ways in prison. They may have pressured her to confess," said Shabnam Assadollahi, an Iranian activist based in Canada.
"This is a verdict of "Ghessas" ["an eye for an eye"], but the details of the case don't make sense," Assadollhai said.
Jabbari's family and advocates, including Assadollahi, have pointed to the fact that a small pocket knife and two stabs in the shoulder would not result in fatal consequences for a large man, which is how Sarbandi was described. They say her confession was coerced with torture.
